HYRAX PUBLISHERS "Mauser Military Rifle Markings"  by Terence W. Lapin

"The revised and expanded second edition of the standard reference book, Mauser Military Rifle Markings, 2nd Edition, contains almost 30 new pages of additional illustrations and data on the world's most popular bolt-action military rifles. "

I had the strangest experience with this book. I didn't know a lot about Nazi history or the SS for that matter. After reading this book and comparing markings on one of my 98ks, I discovered that it was carried by the SS Totenkopf. The rifle in question has two SS Runes over the Death's Head Symbol, located underneath the barrel. The SS Totenkopf or also called the SS Deaths Head Regiments were usually either the concentration camp guards or divisions in the Waffen SS. If anything can be true, these were actually the worst of the worst, when it came to the Nazis. They were led by a thoroughly brutal man, Theodor Eicke,  that thought the time served in the concentration camps as a camp guard, hardened the men and made them a better soldier and a better Nazi. This book only told me about the markings, I researched the rest on the Internet.

The book overall is really the definitive resource on Mauser Military Rifle markings (as the title says). I was able to identify every Mauser I own, and I own a few. Please keep in mind that this book has one single purpose, to help the reader identify the markings on a Mauser Rifle. For this purpose I give it five stars. If you are looking for this book to be anything else - you will be disappointed. I don't mean this as a criticism, just the plain, undeniable truth.
